The Teacher and the Meeting

A typical ‘VirtuAule LISTEN!’ packet of meetings with the teacher consists of 10 one-to-one lessons of 50 minutes each.

The learner studies for each 50-minute meeting from the Unit video, which focuses on target language divided into a Phonetics group and the corresponding English group. The learner completes Preparation Step 1, 2 and 3 by themselves. At this point the learner is prepared to attempt the lesson and execute the drills with the teacher.

The teacher’s role is to assess the learner’s ability to use the target language in a series of drills and tasks.

Each 50-minute lesson meeting consists of four phases that are called ‘PERIODS’.

In the first period, the learner has a brief conversation with the teacher. The teacher may also ask the learner to make a 2-minute speech on a topic.

In the second period, the learner attempts one of the groups from the Unit. The learner reads only from the English group. The teacher accesses mistakes, fluency and intonation.

In the third period, the teacher works together with the learner to complete some drills that will help the learner to use the target language from the preparation.

Finally, at the end of the lesson, the teacher makes an assessment of the learner's learning. If the learner is not prepared enough to win the approval of the teacher’s assessment, the unit is not considered completed and the learner must attempt another time. Only if the learner’s performance is considered up-to-par, the unit is considered completed and the learner can go on to the next one. There is no limit to the attempts that a student can make for the unit.
