Part 2
Listen to a woman talking about a visit to New York.

Woman:

If you want to go somewhere exciting for a holiday, I recommend New York. It's a fantastic place to visit, even for a short stay. You'll be amazed at all the things you can see and do there. New York City is the most populous city. In the United States, it has an interesting history. Both the state and the City of New York were named after the 17th century Duke of York, who became King James, the second of England. New York has always been an entrance into the United States, as many immigrants arrived there first. Hoping to find a better life now? It's known for having some of the best sightseeing anywhere in the world. If you go there on holiday, there are some places you really must visit. The most obvious one is the Statue of Liberty. That was one of the first things I did when I arrived in New York City after I had unpacked my suitcase, of course. The statue was a gift from the people of France in 1886 and has welcomed all visitors since. The statue is about 46 metres tall, which is a little smaller than I imagined it would be. Visitors are allowed to go inside the crown on top of the statues, head and look out over the city. I'll never forget this as I felt very nervous due to my fear of heights. The view was just amazing. The next thing I had to do was see a show at a theatre on Broadway. Broadway is known for its musicals, which are what my husband wanted to see. I wanted to see a comedy. And as usual, I got my way. My husband's a very kind man. We decided to book the tickets before we left England to make sure we got the show we wanted. It was quite expensive, but we had a great time and it finished off a day of fantastic sightseeing. Finally, you can't be in New York without going shopping. Macy's is one of the most famous department stores in the world, and we were determined to go there and buy some souvenirs before we left. Our flight home was late in the afternoon so early on the morning of our last day we took a taxi to Macy's. I'd looked at Macy's on the Internet before we arrived in New York, so I knew which items I wanted to buy. This helped to save time as we didn't have long for our shopping. Our short stay in New York was perfect and I was very sad to leave. I'll definitely go there again in the future.
